现在越来越多的美国经济学家也加入到国会山政客的队伍，要求中国升值人民币，否则动用反倾销税打击中国的出口。Clive Crook认为这是错误的。经济学家如莫里斯•戈尔德施泰因(Morris Goldstein)承认人民币升值对美国的贸易赤字无济于事，因为“人民币在美元贸易加权指数中的权重只有15%。即使人民币升值20%，也只能使美元贸易加权汇率下降区区3%。这将使美国经常账户赤字减少约500亿美元，而去年美国经常账户赤字高达8500亿美元。”但心存侥幸的是，人民币升值可能会拉升亚洲其它一些国家的汇率。这将有所帮助。

因此这还是一个政治问题。

而判断一种货币是否低估或高估比政客们随意开口要复杂得多。A study by two IMF economists, Steven Dunaway and Xiangming Li, examined eight different estimates of the yuan’s supposed undervaluation: they ranged from zero to almost 50% depending on the methods and assumptions used.
